FindIT Tabs: Independent Hardware for Physical Endpoint Recovery

Why Add Tabs?

• Purpose-built recovery beacons. Dedicated audio, visual, and Bluetooth hardware deliver consistent recovery capabilities without depending on the presence or state of endpoint speakers, displays, or Bluetooth adapters.
• Independent communications. Tabs maintain their own secure Wi-Fi connection to FindIT Basecamp, providing an independent communication path for telemetry and FindIT Mode commands even when the attached endpoint is offline or unreachable.
• Local recovery activation. When network connectivity isn't available, technicians can use the FindIT Mobile App to activate FindIT Mode directly over Bluetooth, keeping recovery operations moving.
• The Buddy System. Scout and its paired Tab continuously watch over one another, reporting unexpected removal, reassignment, or separation to FindIT Basecamp.
• Investigate unmanaged attachments. If a Tab is connected to an unmanaged computer (no Scout agent), the Tab can still report attachment events, power state, timing, and radio-observable context back to FindIT Basecamp. Deep endpoint identity data (like hostname and full network profile) requires Scout or an approved host-side helper.
• Recover even when the endpoint can't. Battery-backed operation allows Tabs to continue participating in FindIT recovery workflows even when the attached endpoint loses power.

What if the Computer Cannot Identify Itself?

Some recovery scenarios involve endpoints that cannot reliably self-identify due to power state, missing peripherals, policy constraints, hardware variability, or other operational limits.

Tabs provide an independent hardware layer so endpoint recovery does not depend entirely on the host operating system and endpoint hardware profile.
